SIVEXTRO Lifestyle Interactions

Tedizolid phosphate 200mg, Oral tablet

Food

· Severity: Moderate

· Notes for Consumers: Certain foods might increase the risk of side effects with Tedizolid. You should probably limit your intake of alcoholic beverages, aged or smoked meats (like sausages or smoked or pickled fish), aged cheeses, and caffeine containing foods like coffee, colas, teas, and chocolate while on Tedizolid. Taking these foods along with Tedizolid might increase the risk of increased blood pressure, confusion, restlessness, or other side effects. Ask your dietician or health care professional for a complete listing of foods best avoided while on Tedizolid.

· Notes for Professionals: Tedizolid is an antibiotic that is also a weak reversible, non-selective inhibitor of MAO. Therefore,it has the potential to interact with food. Food and dietary interactions with non-selective MAO-inhibitors can be serious. Foods or beverages containing tyramine should be consumed with caution. The inhibition of MAO in the GI tract and liver can result in systemic absorption of large amounts of tyramine from the diet, which may cause hypertension. In two placebo-controlled crossover trials, the median tyramine dose required to increase systolic blood pressure >=30 mmHg from baseline was 325 mg with tedizolid compared to 425 mg with placebo. Palpitations were reported in 21/29 (72.4%) of tedizolid patients compared to 13/28 (45.4%) placebo patients. The lowest tyramine dose studied was 275 mg under fasting conditions. Sensitivity to tyramine is expected to be decreased 2-fold with meals. A typical tyramine-rich meal is expected to contain no more than 40 mg of tyramine. Additionally, tedizolid is a pro-drug in the GI tract, which may limit MAO inhibition at that site. However, 1 of the 7 subjects studied had a tyramine pressor sensitivity factor > 2 (2.1), which is considered a clinically relevant increase in tyramine sensitivity. Some ethanol-based products also contain tyramine including some beers (including reduced-ethanol and ethanol-free beer); wines (red); sherry; hard liquor; or liqueurs. The following foods should be consumed with caution during therapy with tedizolid because of their tyramine content: aged cheeses; bananas, avocados or any over-ripe fruit; fava bean or broad bean pods; fermented, pickled or smoked fish, meats and sausages; pickled herring; soy sauce; yeast extract; and protein-containing foods containing high amounts of tyramine. Following discontinuation of a non-selective MAO inhibitor, dietary restrictions should continue for at least 2 weeks due to the slow recovery from the enzyme-inhibiting effects of these drugs.
