ORLISTAT (OR li stat) promotes weight loss. It may also be used to maintain weight loss. It works by decreasing the amount of fat your body absorbs from food. Changes to diet and exercise are often combined with this medication.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

Take this medication by mouth with water. Take it as directed on the label. Take it with a meal that contains fat. It may be taken during the meal or up to 1 hour after the meal. If you miss a meal or eat a meal that does not contain fat, do not take your dose. Do not take this medication more often than directed.
Take a multivitamin that contains vitamins A, D, E, K, and beta-carotene daily while you are taking this medication. Take multivitamins at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after this medication.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While it may be prescribed for children as young as 12 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply. Over-the-counter products are not approved for use in children.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

-Cyclosporine
-Levothyroxine
-Some antivirals for HIV
-Some medications for diabetes
-Some medications for seizures
-Supplements that contain vitamins A, D, E, K, or beta-carotene, such as cranberry, cod liver oil, fish oil
-Warfarin
This medication may affect how other medications work. Talk with your care team about all the medications you take. They may suggest changes to your treatment plan to lower the risk of side effects and to make sure your medications work as intended.

Visit your care team for regular checks on your progress. Tell your care team if your condition does not start to get better or if it gets worse.
Eat a balanced, low-calorie, low-fat diet while you are taking this medication. Eating less fat can help lower the risk of common side effects. Your care team can help you choose a diet that works for you.
Take a multivitamin that contains vitamins A, D, E, K, and beta-carotene daily while you are taking this medication. This medication may cause low levels of these vitamins in your body.
Weight loss may affect blood sugar (glucose) levels. Tell your care team if you take medications for diabetes. They may need to help you adjust your dose.
Talk to your care team if you may be pregnant. Serious fetal side effects can occur if you take this medication during pregnancy. Weight loss is not recommended during pregnancy.
Talk to your care team about this medication if you are breastfeeding. Changes to your treatment plan may be needed.

If you miss a dose, take it within 1 hour following the meal that contains fat. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses. If you occasionally miss a meal or have a meal without fat, you can skip that dose of this medication.

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
-Gallbladder problems—severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, fever
-Kidney injury—decrease in the amount of urine, swelling of the ankles, hands, or feet
-Kidney stones—blood in the urine, pain or trouble passing urine, pain in the lower back or sides
-Liver injury—right upper belly pain, loss of appetite, nausea, light-colored stool, dark yellow or brown urine, yellowing skin or eyes, unusual weakness or fatigue
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Diarrhea
-Gas
-Oily rectal discharge or stool

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Keep the container tightly closed. Get rid of any unused medication after the expiration date.
To get rid of medications that are no longer needed or have expired:
-Take the medication to a take-back program. Check with your pharmacy or law enforcement to find a location.
-If you cannot return the medication, check the label or package insert to see if the medication should be thrown out in the garbage or flushed down the toilet. If you are not sure, ask your care team. If it is safe to put it in the trash, empty the medication out of the container. Mix it with cat litter, dirt, coffee grounds, or another unwanted substance. Seal the mixture in a bag or container. Put it in the trash.
