It may also be used to help prevent your immune system from reacting if you have Rh-negative blood and come into contact with Rh-positive blood. This can happen during a blood transfusion. It can also happen during pregnancy if the fetus has a different blood type than you. It works by helping your body ignore the Rh protein.
