Drinking alcohol while taking this medication can cause serious side effects, such as central nervous system (CNS) depression, mood swings, irritability, hostility, worsening mood, feelings of depression, and can increase the risk of falling. Call emergency services right away if you experience symptoms of CNS depression: slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, trouble staying awake.
    Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid alcohol consumption while taking perampanel. Alcohol consumption while taking perampanel increases the risk for CNS depression and psychiatric and behavioral adverse reactions. In a study with healthy volunteers, the effect of perampanel on the ability to perform complex tasks, such as driving, was additive or supra-additive to the impairment effects of alcohol. Additionally, subjects experienced increased levels of anger, confusion, and depression and enhanced interference with vigilance and alertness.
