SOLIFENACIN (sol i FEN a cin) is used to treat overactive bladder. This medicine reduces the amount of bathroom visits. It may also help to control wetting accidents. It may be used alone, but sometimes may be given with other treatments.

Solifenacin Succinate 5mg, Oral tablet

Grapefruit juice

· Severity: Mild

· Notes for Consumers: Solifenacin may be administered with or without food; most foods do not interact. Side effects from Solifenacin may get worse if you take grapefruit juice. Do not significantly alter your intake of grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Solifenacin. In addition, excessive intake of beverages with caffeine or alcoholic beverages may increase urination and may decrease the effectiveness of Solifenacin.

· Notes for Professionals: Solifenacin is significantly metabolized via the CYP3A4 pathway. Clinicians should be aware that interactions may occur between solifenacin and grapefruit juice. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice inhibit CYP3A4 metabolism in gut enterocytes.Patients should not significantly adjust their intake of grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking solifenacin. Consideration should be given to limiting solifenacin dosage to 5 mg/day in some patients.
