SUCROFERRIC OXYHYDROXIDE (SOO kroe FER ik OX ee hye DROX ide) prevents and treats high phosphorus levels in people with kidney disease. It works by lowering the amount of phosphorus your body absorbs from food. It belongs to a group of medications called phosphate binders.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

Take this medication by mouth. Take it as directed on the prescription label. Chew or crush the entire tablet before swallowing. Do not swallow the tablets whole. Take it with food at the start of a meal. Keep taking it unless your care team tells you to stop.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While it may be given to children as young as 9 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

This medication may interact with the following:
-Alendronate
-Aspirin
-Calcitriol
-Certain antibiotics, such as cephalexin, doxycycline, and tetracycline
-Doxercalciferol
-Paricalcitol
-Thyroid hormones

Visit your care team for regular check-ups. You may need blood work done while taking this medication.

If you miss one or more doses, restart your medication with the next meal. Do not take double or extra doses.

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Change in tooth color
-Dark stools
-Diarrhea
-Metallic taste in mouth
-Nausea
-Upset stomach

Keep out of the reach of children.
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Throw away any unused medication after the expiration date.
