Iohexol 518mg/1mL, Solution for injection
• Interaction: Caffeine-containing Foods/Beverages• Severity: Major• Notes for Consumers: Although Radiopaque Contrast Agents and Caffeine can interact, Radiopaque Contrast Agents are only used in a hospital or clinic during various imaging procedures. Sometimes, Radiopaque Contrast Agents (examples iohexol or Omnipaque or Iopamidol or Isovue) are injected into your spinal fluid through your back (called intrathecally). If you have a high intake of caffeinated beverages (like coffee, colas, or teas) and you receive Radiopaque Contrast Agents through your back, the risk of seizures could be increased. Discuss your caffeine intake with your health care provider prior to any procedures or exams.• Notes for Professionals: Use of medications that lower the seizure threshold should be carefully evaluated when considering intrathecal radiopaque contrast agents. Caffeine and caffeine containing products should be discontinued at least 48 hours before myelography and should not be resumed for at least 24 hours postprocedure.
