It may also lower the risk of heart attack, worsening heart failure, and death caused by kidney disease in people with type 2 diabetes. It can also be used to lower the risk of worsening disease and death caused by heart failure. It works by blocking the effect of the hormone aldosterone in your body. This decreases inflammation and injury in the kidneys, heart, and blood vessels.

    Notes for Consumers: Do not drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit-containing foods while taking Finerenone. Side effects from Finerenone may get worse. Contact your prescriber immediately if you experience muscle weakness; chest pain; or fast, irregular heartbeat.
    Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice during finerenone treatment due to the risk of increased finerenone exposure and adverse reactions. Finerenone is a CYP3A substrate and grapefruit juice is a strong CYP3A inhibitor. Coadministration with another strong CYP3A inhibitor increased overall exposure to finerenone by more than 400%.
