Cannabis

· Severity: Major

Alcohol

Drinking alcohol while taking this medication can cause serious side effects, such as central nervous system (CNS) depression, and can increase the risk of falling. Call emergency services right away if you experience symptoms of CNS depression: slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, trouble staying awake.

· Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid alcohol consumption while taking CNS depressants. Alcohol consumption may result in additive CNS depression.

Grapefruit juice

· Severity: Major

· Notes for Consumers: Do not take these agents together without approval from your prescriber. Taking these agents together could result in serious side effects such as dizziness; feeling faint or lightheaded, falls; unusually weak or tired; unusually slow heartbeat. Report any of these effects immediately should they occur.

· Notes for Professionals: Avoid consumption of grapefruit or grapefruit juice with guanfacine. Grapefruit is a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor, and guanfacine is a CYP3A4 substrate. Consumption may significantly increase exposure to guanfacine and increase the risk of alpha-adrenergic effects (e.g., hypotension, drowsiness, lethargy, bradycardia).
