Smoking tobacco may reduce pirfenidone overall exposure and efficacy. Smoking tobacco induces CYP1A2 and pirfenidone is a CYP1A2 substrate. Smoking has been observed to decrease pirfenidone peak and overall exposure by 68% and 46%, respectively.
