APREPITANT (ap RE pi tant) prevents nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy. It works by blocking substances in your body that may cause nausea and vomiting. It belongs to a group of medications called antiemetics.

    Notes for Consumers: Do not take Aprepitant, Fosaprepitant with grapefruit juice. Increased side effects may be observed if these drugs are given together. Discuss possible alternative options with your health care provider.
    Notes for Professionals: Avoid the concomitant use of aprepitant, fosaprepitant with grapefruit juice due to substantially increased exposure of aprepitant. After administration, fosaprepitant is rapidly converted to aprepitant. Grapefruit juice is a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor and aprepitant is a CYP3A4 substrate. Coadministration of a single oral dose of aprepitant on day 5 of a 10-day ketoconazole regimen (strong CYP3A4 inhibitor) increased the aprepitant AUC approximately 5-fold, and increased the mean terminal half-life by approximately 3-fold.
