FORMOTEROL; MOMETASONE (for MOH te rol; moe MET a sone) inhalation is a combination of two medicines that decrease inflammation and help to open up the airways in your lungs. It is used to treat asthma. Do NOT use in an acute asthma attack.

Caffeine-containing Foods/Beverages

· Severity: Moderate

· Notes for Consumers: Caffeine-sensitive persons,may experience nausea, nervousness, palpitations, problems with sleep, rapid heartbeat, or other side effects. Some of these effects are additive with other medications. Some patients may need to limit or avoid excessive caffeine intake from foods, beverages, dietary supplements or medicines. Caffeine containing items include coffee, teas, colas, chocolate and some dietary supplements or non-prescription medicines.

· Notes for Professionals: Sensitive patients may wish to limit or avoid excessive caffeine intake from foods, beverages, dietary supplements and medications during therapy with beta-agonists. Additive side effects may occur between caffeine and beta-agonists. Caffeine is a CNS-stimulant and beta-agonists are sympathomimetic agents. Sensitive patients might experience tremor, sleep difficulties, or mild increases in heart rate.

Grapefruit juice

· Severity: Moderate

· Notes for Consumers: These agents may be taken together with close supervision from your prescriber. Taking these drugs together could result in serious side effects such as mood changes; nausea, vomiting; dizziness; feeling faint or lightheaded, falls; unusually weak or tired; high blood pressure; skin changes; weight loss or gain. Report any of these effects immediately should they occur.

· Notes for Professionals: Consumption of grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking mometasone may increase systemic exposure to mometasone, increasing the risk of corticosteroid-related adverse events. Avoid consistent consumption of grapefruit and its juice while on mometasone therapy; those who do consume grapefruit regularly should be monitored closely for hypercorticism and adrenal suppression. Mometasone is a CYP3A4 substrate and grapefruit is a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor.
