MANNITOL (MAN i tol) treats cystic fibrosis (CF). It works by thinning mucus, making it easier to clear from the lungs. This prevents the buildup of mucus, which improves breathing and reduces the risk of infection.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

This medication is inhaled through the mouth. Do not swallow the capsules. Take it as directed on the prescription label at the same times every day. Use your short-acting "quick-relief" medication 5 to 15 minutes before every dose of this medication. Do not use this medication more often than directed. Keep taking it unless your care team tells you to stop.
This medication comes with INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE. Ask your pharmacist for directions on how to use this medication. Read the information carefully. Talk to your pharmacist or care team if you have questions.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. Special care may be needed.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Interactions are not expected.

Visit your care team for regular checks on your progress. Tell your care team if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse.
You must use your quick-acting inhaler 5 to 15 minutes before every dose of this medication. This helps prevent wheezing and feeling breathless. Use your short-acting rescue medication if you have sudden breathing problems. If you feel very breathless during use of this medication, let your care team know right away.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
-Coughing up blood
-Wheezing or trouble breathing
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Cough
-Fever
-Irritation inside the mouth or throat
-Severe joint pain
-Sore throat
-Vomiting

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Keep this medication in the original container until you are ready to take it. If your medication is stored at temperatures more than 30 degrees C (86 degrees F), get rid of it. Do not refrigerate. Do not freeze. Get rid of the inhaler after 7 days of use and get a new one.
