Switching to Generics

Should I switch to a generic?

Is there a difference between generic and brand name drugs? For the most part, no. For both chronic and acute conditions, most people can safely fill a generic prescription and expect the same safety and effectiveness as brand name pharmaceuticals. For some people, it is important to remain consistent with the brand of medicine being taken, so ask your pharmacist if your prescription medication should be filled with the same generic manufacturer. Read the label information and get to know your medication - the size, shape, color and imprinting. If you notice any changes in your medicines, be sure to ask. Generics do have the benefit of lower prices, however, anytime you consider a change to your prescription you should discuss this with your pharmacist and your physician.
